The University of Northern Iowa Wind Ensemble performs a collection of contemporary music for wind band that is inspired by visual art, including world premiere recordings of four compositions. Collectively inspired by over fifteen works of art from eleven different artists, composers Michael Daugherty, James David, Adam Schoenberg, and Zhou Tian bring innovative and exciting ideas to the wind band medium. Visual and musical arts share common ideas of form, color, shape, rhythm, depth, and intensity. Both find meaning through expression, providing an emotional experience for those searching for one. Visual art has it's own composition, and music paints on it's own temporal canvas. The music on this album gives us a special opportunity to live in both worlds.
